Features

What a personal AI
actually does.

Shipped today, not a roadmap. Local chat that remembers you, a morning brief that uses your real data, pattern detection, what-if simulations, and one-click actions into Reminders / Notes / Calendar — all on your Mac, nothing in the cloud. If it's on this page, it works in the build at /download.

Daily core

What you log every day

Habits

Check off a custom list. Drag to reorder. Real persistence, toggles survive across reboots. Streaks compute automatically.

Mood

Five-face logger with optional tags (focused / tired / calm / motivated / stressed / etc.) and a one-line note. 14-day mood chart on the Mood tab.

Journal

Single full-width serif editor. Auto-saves 500 ms after each keystroke. Date picker to revisit any past day; recent-entries list below.

Water

Quick +250 / +500 / +750 / +1L buttons on the Nutrition tab and a counter on the Overview tile that doubles as a one-tap add.

Body data

Fitness, nutrition, sleep, weight

Workouts

Name, type, duration, calories, date, notes. KPIs compute live: weekly count + week-over-week delta.

Meals

Type, name, and macros (calories / protein / carbs / fat) per entry. Daily totals roll up into the Overview KPIs.

Sleep

Bedtime + wake + quality. Duration auto-calculated. 7-night bar chart on the Sleep tab.

Weight

Daily kg log, 30-day delta in green/red, inline 60-entry sparkline.

Imports

Pull from Apple Health, no cloud

One-shot XML import

Health app on iPhone → Export All Health Data → drop the XML into VAND. Workouts, sleep, weight, water, and step-days populate instantly.

Auto-import folder

Pick an iCloud Drive folder once. Pair it with an iOS Shortcut that exports Health data on a schedule, and VAND re-imports automatically every time a fresh export.xml lands. Debounced + mtime-deduped.

Intelligence

Insights without sending data anywhere

AI Briefing

Daily summary on the Overview tab, generated by the private AI that ships inside the app. The model downloads once on first run, then everything runs on-device. A built-in rules engine covers you until it's ready.

Cross-correlations

Mood × sleep, mood × workouts, journal × mood. Surfaces a pattern only when there are enough paired samples to mean something (≥5 by default).

Streak intelligence

Tracks active streaks per habit, flags at-risk streaks (had it yesterday, not yet today), and ranks insights by priority so the most useful card lands first.

Security

On-device, encrypted, lockable

AES-256-GCM at rest

vand.json is encrypted with a random IV per write and a 128-bit auth tag. Atomic temp+rename writes so nothing corrupts on kill.

Two key-wrapping modes

Default: the AES key is wrapped by Electron safeStorage (Keychain / DPAPI / libsecret). Opt-in: re-wrap the key with PBKDF2-SHA256(passphrase, 200k iters), safeStorage leaves the trust chain entirely.

Lock screen + auto-lock

Passphrase + Touch ID gate at launch. Cmd+L locks on demand. Configurable idle auto-lock (1 / 5 / 15 / 30 / 60 minutes).

No cloud, no telemetry

Renderer is loaded via file://. The only network surfaces are the update feed, the one-time AI model download, and the local AI engine on 127.0.0.1. No accounts. No sync. No analytics SDK.

Surface

Desktop ergonomics

Keyboard nav

Single-key tab switching (O/H/F/N/S/M/J/I/,) when not typing. Cmd+N opens the context-aware quick-add. Cmd+L locks the vault.

Themes

Light and dark, persists across reboots. SVG charts re-render in both themes, no contrast surprises.

Onboarding

Four-step flow on first launch (welcome / name / which trackers / privacy pledge). Replayable from Settings any time you want to reset preferences.

A day in VAND

Flip through the ritual.

07:00

Unlock the vault

Touch ID, or your passphrase. The data file unlocks; the AI Briefing renders before the dock icon settles.
07:01

Read the briefing

Today’s habits. Last night’s sleep. This week’s workouts. A correlation you wouldn’t have spotted unaided.
Throughout

One click per habit

Drag to reorder. +250 ml on the water tile. Auto-save on the journal. Sleep imports overnight from Apple Health.
Evening

Log mood + journal

Five faces, eight tags, one line. The serif editor auto-saves 500 ms after every keystroke.
22:00

Close the laptop

Auto-lock takes over after the idle window you chose. vand.json stays encrypted on disk. No sync, nothing to leak.

Ready to try it?

Local first. About 190 MB with the private AI included. Apple Silicon and Intel both supported.
